Why Ron Paul is Wrong

Racism cannot be tollerated.

Why Ron Paul is Wrong

As much as it pains me to do this (ok, maybe it doesn't) it is that time of the election cycle once again. It seems that every four years, Ron Paul shows up at a debate and says some things that are so good on domestic issues that some Republicans forget the insanity of his foreign policy and they start getting excited about his candidacy. Perhaps you are one of those people. If not, you may know one. If you are not one and you don't know one, you can usually find one on an internet forum board typing in all caps with horrible spelling. If you recognize any of these traits in yourself, or someone you know, please read this and share it with the others. Ron Paul will never be President of the United States, and his candidacy is a complete non-starter to most Republicans because Ron Paul is a bigot. Now I know, that is strong language. And perhaps you don't want it to be true so badly that you will convince yourself it is not. That is fine too, because you will see here that I can make such a convincing case that it doesn't matter if it is true or not. He can never win.

Now, if you are a racist or a homophobe, then I am not talking to you here. To the rest of us, would you not blush if you were eating dinner with a friend and they said the following?

If you have ever been robbed by a black teen-aged male, you know how unbelievably fleet-footed they can be.

Now, perhaps if you knew the person and you knew them to not be racist, you would take it as an attempt at humor that was in bad taste. So if I told you that Ron Paul said this over a beer with a buddy, then it probably wouldn't be the end of his political world. The problem is, that is only one in a string of racist quotes from a newsletter that was put out by Ron Paul over the years. He, of course, claimed that the quotes were taken out of context. If you are a Ron Paul supporter, could you kindly put these quotes in a context where they would be acceptable?

Opinion polls consistently show only about 5% of blacks have sensible political opinions,

-or-

Barbara Jordan is “the archetypical half-educated victimologist” whose “race and sex protect her from criticism.

-or-

Boy, it sure burns me to have a national holiday for Martin Luther King. I voted against this outrage time and time again as a Congressman. What an infamy that Ronald Reagan approved it! We can thank him for our annual Hate Whitey Day.

-or-

"Homosexuals, not to speak of the rest of society, were far better off when social pressure forced them to hide their activities.

-or-

Even in my little town of Lake Jackson, Texas, I've urged everyone in my family to know how to use a gun in self defense. For the animals are coming.

If you are a Paul supporter who is trying to defend them or looking for the right context, stop. Ron Paul gave up on that a while ago. That is why he changed his story to "he did not author the challenged passages, he bore 'some moral responsibility' for their publication". Apparently, Ron now wants us to believe that he bears no moral responsibility for the comments printed in his newsletter. Here is what he told CNN.

Dim lights

Now, Ron clearly distances himself from these comments here, but why would he not distance himself from the white supremacists that helped fund his campaign? One thing is clear. You as an individual may be able to get past these comments and questionable backers, but we as a party cannot. If we chose Ron Paul to be the standard bearer for our party, are we any better than the Democrats who had the founder and "Exalted Cyclops" of a chapter of the Ku Klux Klan as their Majority and Minority Leader in the U.S. Senate until 1997, and allowed him to serve in the Senate under their name until 2010? They thought they could bury Senator Byrd's past as well, but in 2001 his true colors shown through again when he dropped the "n" word twice in a television interview. The Republican party is already viewed as racist by some members of minority groups. Turning the reins over to a man with either blatantly racist views, or horribly flawed judgement is a chance we cannot take.

That was a weak argument. "But why would he not distance himself from the white supremacists that helped fund his campaign?" He has, in an interview, explained simply that just because funding comes from these sources, does not imply that he supports them or their way of thinking; and he's right! How many other Presidential Candidates receive funding from shady sources, or lobbyists?
Whether he's racist or not is debatable. Whether it would show in his foreign and domestic policies is not. If you look at his opinions and voting record on key issues, nothing indicates he's racist. In the same way that Ron Paul is a Baptist, but against a Constitutional ban on gay marriage, the point is moot.
I'm not averse to hearing feedback from anyone opposing my views above. I know Paul comes off as eccentric, and I can see that. But, on the issues, he seems like exactly what our country needs now; economic conservation, extension of freedoms, non-interventionist policies, and, most importantly, a fresh outlook, which rivals that of the Left/Right puppet show that we've seen for decades.

Exactly, in over 30 years being in congress, the most conservative voter, has to have a bad history like Mitt Romney right? Sadly i find NONE no matter how much I look.

He went to war when he had a wife and two children, and our troops support Ron Paul more than 20 times Romney

Wow....Its really funny, still to this day that people believe that the President of the US is the most powerful man in the world. And, that it matters whos in office, no, it doesn't. Your still going to get screwed anally, I mean anyway. Everyone seems to think that Ron Pauls foreign policies are insane. "Everything is ok in other parts of the world in other countries, so long as America says it is." Which answers the question, "why does everyone hate America?" Duh.... WE are all raised to believe that there live lesser people in the rest of the world, F#$% them let them fend for themselves, no F@$% you without them your nothing. So you can follow your anarexic standard of living. And try to pretend, like your just like them. All the finaciears out their answer this, "how long does a WORLD RESERVE CURRENCY WORK before it collapses?"

I do appreciate your comment, Buster Balls. Until now, the replies that I had gotten to my Ron Paul posts were largely literate and seemed to be thought out. I was beginning to think that the original PaulBots who had traveled the web with posts like the one above had lost interest in his campaign.

Please, never underestimate the roll you play in reminding America of the mental instability that inherently accepts Mr. Paul's logic. Your comment is greatly appreciated.

Nice sources. I'm happy you have an opinion. I'm sorry it's so full of hate and bias. He's the best choice we have to save this country. He's 1 in a million when it comes to politicians: He's willing to do what it takes to save this country, whether it be good or bad for himself.

Since an opinion is a view based on something other than fact or knowledge, wouldn't it have to be biased? I don't know the guy, so it couldn't be based on personal experience.

As far as the hate comment goes, it's funny that I point out the racist things that were printed in his newsletter, and you accuse me of hate while defending him.

I agree that he is one in a million when it comes to politicians. Fortunately for this Country, his chances of winning aren't quite that good.

the majority of people who actually do their homework are Ron Paul supporters. Untill recently I never cared for politics but would sometimes watch these government people on tv and it was clear they don't seem to know what they are talking about which is evident in our current state. So after considering voting this year, I stumbled upon this Ron Paul and after bias and non bias research i couldnt find any deciet in him, while my opinion of the other canadites left me discouraged as always. But Ron Paul was different he went against the grain. I was amazed by his integrity and the fact that he gave answers for our country's problems that made sense. I mean you dont need a degree in world econims or something to that affect to know that you cant keep spending money you dont have yet at the same time pay off debt. Anyone who would disagree with that is detached from reality. And is selfish because I speak for the lower income 40% when I say if you want to support other country's set up a charity and spend away but WE don't because WE can't afford it. I'm sick of Americans thinking were the righteous hand of god and we have our shit together when we have such high crime rates, high homeless rate and are constantly hearing about some congress man in trouble because he can't keep his dick in his pants. And if ron Paul is in fact racisist which is the anti Ron Paul's main argument.. He would still look like a saint compared to the rest.
